Waterloo Park Fountain Design & Construction Case Study

This study takes an in-depth look at Soucy Aquatik’s work on the Waterloo Park project, which focused on creating enhancements and improvements for a park that is often referred to as the jewel of the city. Waterloo Park has long been revered by locals for its breathtaking 119-acre landscape, including a lake, animal farm, splash pad, and other features. Soucy Aquatik was tasked with elevating and improving the park’s existing features, creating a better space for families in the area.

Like most projects, Waterloo Park’s improvements involved a fair share of challenges, such as creating the perfect unobscured view for the primary fountain. Backed by a team of engineers, fountain builder experts, and designers, Soucy Aquatik rose to the occasion, delivering a finished result that seamlessly merged functionality and aesthetics. The company’s work, along with upgrades to walkways, landscaping enhancements, and additional lookout areas, helped to take the beloved park to new heights.

As a leading fountain contractor, Soucy Aquatik is accustomed to tackling large-scale projects. In total, the Waterloo Park project featured enhancements to four unique areas on the property: a cascade foundation, two circular fountains, and an interactive splash pad. Our team acted as the featured water contractor in this endeavor, bringing decades of fountain construction expertise to the table. Together, we worked to achieve the park’s most vital objective, which was to create an inviting and safe space for families across the area to gather together.

Challenges of this fountain construction

Mechanical Room Placement:

Finding the ideal placement for a mechanical room is a key component of fountain construction, and this particular project posed the unique challenge of working around the park’s vantage points. More specifically, the client instructed that the mechanical room be placed in a way to not obstruct the view of the park, making it challenging to align the practical needs of the fountain with the park’s aesthetics.

Moreover, the drainage system and land elevation made opting for an underground mechanical room difficult. Instead, the Soucy Aquatik team chose to place the room nearly two hundred yards away from the fountain itself. This made it challenging to access water treatment equipment and lighting controls, which were key components of the fountain’s functionality. Thankfully, with the years of experience and expertise as a fountain installer including piping, mechanical and lighting, our team was able to overcome these challenges and provide bespoke solutions, in collaboration with the general contractor and professional, that ensured the fountain was fully operational in time for its inauguration.

Stainless-Steel Tree Design and Construction:

In addition to the fountain, Soucy Aquatik was tasked with the design and installation of stainless-steel trees, which would also need to be integrated with a fog system. This portion of the project was considered the “main event” for the area, making it essential for our team to create an end result, that was both visually stunning and functional.

Ultimately, Soucy Aquatik collaborated with Crystal Fountains, a leader in fountain design, technology, and manufacturing, to design and implement these trees. We worked on creating the ideal dimensions, fabrication, and fog effect integration for the stainless-steel trees, relying on support from Crystal Fountains for the overall commissioning. Together, the companies created an innovative fountain construction feature that is guaranteed to create an elevated and unique experience for park patrons.

How Our Services Helped

Soucy Aquatik was proud to oversee all of Waterloo Park’s enhancements, including three new fountains and an upgraded splash pad area. Our team of engineers, project managers, and specialized workforce, delivered a project that has been captured in countless pictures and videos since its unveiling, providing a testament to the quality of their work.

Among the most eye-catching features of the fountain construction are the lighting and fog effects provided by their stainless-steel tree designs. These trees have become a key component of the park’s many large-scale events, adding much needed ambiance and visibility for the park’s evening visitors. Additionally, these factors have helped set the stage for new events in the park, opening a world of possibilities for the local community.

Most importantly, Soucy Aquatik’s years of expertise allowed them to achieve the client’s vision of an unobstructed fountain view despite the park’s complex drainage system. Using their expert engineering solutions, our team was able to create a fully functional mechanical room more than two hundred yards away from the fountain, providing all the necessary water treatment and lighting specifications without creating an eye sore for park guests.

Finally, Soucy Aquatik was able to create a better experience for families in the area by upgrading the park’s existing splash pad area. This portion of the park is frequented by countless families during the warmer months, and Soucy Aquatik took the safety and well-being of the park’s young visitors into account at every stage of the development process. Now, the park’s splash pad is more vibrant than ever before, making it a reliable destination for safe fun in the sun.
