Architectural Fountain in Montreal
La Joute is a fountain and sculpture made by Jean-Paul Riopelle. It is located in the center of Quartier International in Montreal. The fountain’s design includes animals from Riopelle’s childhood such as an owl, fish, bear, and a dog. It has a circular basin with an umbrella-shaped jet, and a ring of fire is on the surface of the water. This fire feature was added later when it was reinstalled at Quartier International as part of a fountain construction and renovation project. It was originally located at Montreal’s Olympic Park from 1976 to 2004. The displays run automatically according to a preprogrammed schedule.
